Allergy Symptoms
What Are Some Common Allergy Symptoms?
The most common allergy symptoms affect the nose, sinuses, lungs, and eyes. However, in some cases organs such as the skin, digestive system, and blood vessels can be affected as well. Not all allergic reactions happen the same way. Some allergy symptoms occur immediately after exposure to an allergen, while others take hours or days. Researchers think that the biological factors that cause immediate allergic reactions are different from those that result in delayed allergic reactions.
Allergy symptoms can be categorized as mild, moderate, or severe. Mild allergic reactions can include: Rash; itchiness, watery eyes; congestion. Mild reactions do not spread to other parts of the body. Moderate reactions can include symptoms that spread to other parts of the body, including: itchiness and breathing difficulty. Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) is a rare, life-threatening emergency in which the body’s response to the allergen is sudden and affects the whole body. It may begin with sudden itching of the eyes or face and within minutes progress to more serious symptoms, including:swelling of the throat that can make breathing and swallowing difficult; abdominal pain; vomiting; diarrhea; mental confusion or dizziness; low blood pressure and loss of consciousness. It is important to know the nature of the symptom and the possible cause of the allergy in determining the appropriate allergy remedy.
