Why Use Renewable Energy? - Solar And Wind Power
During the last few years the markets for natural gas, oil and electricity have shown a lot of fluctuations in costs due to global, political and geopolitical events. Renewable energy on the contrary is showing a lot of promise due to t,he following benefits:
Economically - It comes from sources which are cost free or almost free: sunshine, flowing water, wind, and biological waste. It provides price stabilty for RE users. For instance, wind electricity has a fixed price per kW for next 20 years. On the other hand, Coal, gas, oil fire plants face big uncertainties in fuel costs now and in the near future.
Geopolitically - Location of fossil fuels increases the dependency of policies of certain regions for a great part of the world that is not rich in fossil fuels. Renewable energy is independent, as there is an abundance of sunshine and wind in most parts of the earth.
Local Pollution - Air pollution is the major problem worldwide. The biggest cause is the burning of fossil fuels. Poor air quality in turn leads to health problems such as respiratory diseases, asthma and allergies. The great advantage of using renewable energy in place of fossil fuels is that renewable energy adds very few pollutants to the environment and is considered "clean" and "green."
Protecting Global Climate - the use of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide (CO2). This gas acts like an invisible cover, trapping more of the sun's energy in the atmosphere, causing global warming, which in turn leads to further environmental problems such as:
- changes in nature and plants,
- loss of some animal habitat,
- spreading of tropical diseases,
- melting the arctic ice,
- expanding deserts
- and you can probably think of other environmental problems too!
Unlimited Supplies - No limits of sunlight, wind and biomass as long as we live on the planet Earth. The best news!
